About Atidje and Ismail
Atidje (10) and her brother Ismail (12) live with their mother in the small mountain village of Medeni Polyani, in the Sarnitsa municipality. They lost their father, and their mother – who only finished primary school – is long-term unemployed and receives a small sickness pension.
The family lives in very modest conditions: they have no washing machine, no phone. Most of their clothing is donated. The social aid barely covers food. Neighbours help out when they can – with bread, firewood, or small items. Atidje and Ismail are dedicated students – but school supplies, books, and stability are often out of reach.
Our Story
We are Atidje and Ismail. We live with our mother in a remote village in the Rhodope Mountains. After losing our father, our mother has carried everything on her shoulders. She is unwell, cannot work, and we often don’t have enough to eat.
Still, we study hard and believe in our dreams.
Atidje wants to become a teacher - to help other children grow.
Ismail dreams of becoming a doctor - to help others in need.
We hope for a life with dignity - and a future where we, too, can give back.
